County Financial Responsibility
John C. Lincoln Hosp. and Health Corp. v. Maricopa County, No. 1 CA-CV 03-0074 (Ariz. Ct. App. Aug. 3, 2004)
The Court of Appeals of Arizona upheld a lower court ruling requiring a county to reimburse hospitals for treating indigent patients. The court found that the county was "equitably estopped" from challenging the procedure used to determine reimbursement because the parties had used those procedures for over 20 years to calculate reimbursement and the hospitals sufficiently proved the patients' indigent status and residency.
