Langadinos v. Rainville,
No. 99-P-1884 (Mass. App. Mar. 1, 2002)
The Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled that a physician's sharing of information obtained from a patient about the patient's insurance claim with the insurance company that covered a motor vehicle that injured the patient did not constitute a breach of contract, misrepresentation, or a violation of the state's patients' bill of rights. The court recognized that, under state law, exceptions to the confidentiality of patient information extend to the sharing of information with insurance companies. Also, the court found no evidence that the information provided by the physician was untrue.
